Sandgrains Trailer
Documentary film, 52' (Cape Verde, Belgium, Sweden) Matchbox Media Production
As a young boy Zé left his Cape Verdean fishing village for a better life in Sweden. Years later he returns to find his village transformed, and the beach where he once played football has disappeared. His family now digs sand from the ocean floor to sell as cheap concrete, because fishing no longer puts enough food on the table.
Sandgrains is a documentary about the local effects of global fishing. The story takes us all the way from Africa to the corridors of the EU Parliament where an effort to reform Europe’s failing fishing industry is underway.
